Best Travel Tips for LuostoActive Nature Holiday Any Day of the Year
Luosto is a small holiday resort with a cosy feel. The cottage buidling has been regulated so that you will find cottages built only of the deadwood logs, called “kelo” in Finnish. Luosto has also put emphasis on northern lights watching: the street and ski track lighting is designed to minimize light pollution so that the Aurora Borealis can be seen from anywhere in the village. The most comfortable way to see the northern lights is from your own bed: lie back and watch the night sky in Santa’s Aurora Glass Igloos. All Santa’s Hotel Aurora rooms and igloos have aurora alarm so you won’t miss out on the show! Did you know you can see Aurora Borealis from end of August until mid-April?
Luosto Amethyst mine is a peculiarity and a must place to visit! Located in the middle of the National Park, the special amethysts are dug up by hand. You can dig up and take home a lucky stone, too!
Pyhä-Luosto National Park is known for its 12 fell peaks. On the well-marked trails in summer and winter, you get the best views and spots of the wilderness areas. In summer and autumn, go on your own or with a professional guide for hiking, mountain biking, canoeing or stand up paddling. In winter, put on skis, snowshoes or hop on the snowmobile, reindeer sleigh or on a husky safari. Around the year, you can visit a local reindeer farm and learn how to cook around the open fire!
When spending a holiday in Luosto, you will meet the locals and learn about Lappish culture. Santa’s Hotel Aurora is cozy and small, so our staff will become familiar to you. We also have a special Meet the Locals programme. Our trusted partners are also family-owned companies and your guides will be happy to tell of the everyday life in Lapland.
